Durante todos los días y las noches de la navegación, escribió y escribió, hasta que al llegar a las aguas del mar Rojo el barco se incendió y él no tuvo más remedio que salir a cubierta y a los empujones fue metido en el bote salvavidas.
Ya el bote se estaba alejando del naufragio, cuando Albert se golpeó la frente, gritó ¡mi libro! y se echó al agua. Nadando, llegó. Trepó como pudo al barco en llamas y se metió en el fuego, donde su libro ardía.
Y nunca más se supo de ninguno de los dos.
